Happy Valentine’s Day! ๐Ÿ’•

Valentine’s Day has origins in the martyrdom of a 3rd-century Roman priest named Valentine. The holiday became associated with romantic love in the 14th century. A Roman legend says that Emperor Claudius II banned soldiers from marrying. Valentine defied the ban and continued to marry couples in secret. Claudius II imprisoned and beheaded Valentine on February 14.

In honor of Saint Valentine, show someone some love and be thankful for all who have sacrificed their lives for the good of others.

Bishop’s Visit! ๐Ÿคด๐Ÿฝ

Bishop Ketlan will be visiting Emmanuel on February 16 at the 10:30 service. There will be a reception afterward. Contact Carol Veal if you can bring food.

Parishes are asked to fill out a Parochial Report from the National Church each year. Bishop Ketlan asked us to specifically look at 3 questions.

1- How is your parish reducing your carbon footprint?
2-What is one program or initiative at your Church that you feel best exemplifies your congregation?
3-What is one program or initiative at your Church that represents your hope for the future of your congregation or the greater Episcopal Church?
Please email your responses to Don.

LENT โ˜ฆ๏ธ

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, March 5th. Resources will be up on the website in the next couple weeks.

Living Compass booklets for Lenten Devotions and Study will be available in the back of the church, hopefully by February, 23. The Lessons this year is Living Well Through Lent: Loving God by Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit in Heart, Soul, Strength and Mind.
Living Compass is an Episcopal publication and website centered on helping us to live well by loving God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind. As a result, we can live more wholly and well, loving ourselves and our neighbors. On the Living Compass website there are details for how to get the devotions in your inbox or participate in an online discussion on Facebook.
You might be interested in taking their Faith and Wellness Assessment before and after you complete the study.

Garden Club ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐ŸŒพ

The Emmanuel Garden Club meets on the 4th Sunday of the Month, after the 10:30 Service for about an hour. We will continue our discussion on HERBS. Last month we made Potpourri Sachets with Scented Herbs. The February meeting will focus on Medicinal Herbs: history and current usage. If you have any resources, feel free to bring them to share.
We will experience aromatherapy and make some herbal teas for all to try!

The Garden Club is open to all. The Topic for March will be Cooking with Herbs. Bring your gardening questions!

Daughters of the King ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

The Daughters at Emmanuel have had the suggestion for a Ladies Mini-Retreat during Lent, maybe at the Church, and/or possibly a Ladies Summer Retreat at a Retreat Center???
Please let us know if you are interested and share your thoughts for what you’d like to see.

“With heart, mind and spirit, we uphold and bear the cross.โ€
