Jazz @ Emmanuel – February 8, 2026 Characteristics of Love
Two feet of snow is piled up on the sides of my street this February 4th. Sidewalks are incomplete but the ones that are actually there remain untouched by a shovel. My dog and I navigated cautiously to an intersection where there is unfathomably no stop sign from that direction – even though it is a blind hill. Yet, many people take wild advantage of this crazy fact and unwisely “fly” up the hill and swoop around to the right or left in what might rightly be called entitled recklessness. So we waited.
To my surprise, the driver came to a full stop and waved us across. Really? I have never had that happen. I thanked him… and my heart filled up with gratitude. How kind!
My next thought was, am I that cynical that get choked up over a kind driver? or is it that it IS so unusual today? Or, I am just a softie and always hope for more Love in the world?
This was nevertheless, an Act of Kindness. And sometimes, it is the littlest things that remind us love is all around us, all the time in people, and angels unaware. The real challenge is for us to be a part of it too, wherever and whenever we are.
This week, in the chosen Readings, the Jazz Meditations, and the Message, Jazz @ Emmanuel will explore the Characteristics of Love.
And one of them is Kindness to Strangers. Or is it Kindness of Strangers?
Show kindness, receive kindness, bring a friend to Jazz!
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [b]puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, [c]thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” ~ I Corinthians 13:4-6

“if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink;” ~ Romans 12:20
2 ” Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” ~Hebrews 13:2
