Allegheny West Tours
Allegheny West Wine and Garden Tour Features Emmanuel Episcopal!
Wine and food pairings make for a tasty Allegheny West garden tour as people walk the neighborhood, led by docent volunteers. Residents open their homes and gardens to the merely curious and the architectural aficionado alike! The Allegheny West section of the North Side is the destination where these architecturally significant and historic homes and buildings are beautiful on the inside and out! Some have been modernized and some have preserved their historic look and features.
The Wine Tasting Wine Tours and Christmas House Tours were started over 40 years ago by Carol Gomrick, an Allegheny West resident who lives near the church. Other than the extreme covid years of 2020 – 2022, Emmanuel Church, considered an example of Romanesque Revival architecture, has not missed a year being on the Tours. Hosted by Allegheny West Civic Council, the tours are a fundraiser for neighborhood preservation.
Being a destination on the Wine Tours gives Emmanuel the opportunity to introduce visitors to our fun building, our friendly members and our beloved Vicar! Emmanuel’s History, Architecture and National Landmark status are of interest to many and travelers and local residents alike. Visitors tour our Building, Sanctuary and the Courtyard Garden. In addition to the goodies of wine and anything from appetizers to desserts, Tasting tourists and are treated to a creative rendition of Emmanuel’s beginnings and lively storytelling of some of the early (and late) illustrious parishioners, by our Vicar, The Rev. Donald C. Youse, Jr.
This video will give you a glimpse of the age and grandeur of the Neighborhood.
