HOLY WEEK

The Apse at Emmanuel Episcopal houses our Tiffany Angels – AKA “Gibson Girls.” The one on the left holds the Palm Branch for Palm Sunday. She faces the second angel on the right holding a Lily for Easter. This beautiful scene behind the altar captures the essence of the Christian Church’s message — Jesus comes to show as well as tell of the Father’s unconditional, sacrificial Love (Angel with the Palm for Palm Sunday) And He triumphs over even death, and time! forever changing everything and everyone. (Angel with the Easter Lily.)
Hallelujah!

Palm Sunday Service
Also called Passion Sunday, Jesus begins his journey to the cross with a humble entry into Jerusalem on a donkey. The crowds, wanting a king to save them from Roman occupation, wave palm branches and shout, “Hosanna! (Save us!) Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” John 12:13

Service of Tenebrae
Service of “Shadows” or increasing darkness as the events of Holy Week unfold for the “man of sorrows. As the service progresses, it seems that darkness is winning, as it traces the prophesied suffering of Christ through the Psalms. It concludes with the truth that the Lord is the victorious “Light of the World.” “My God turns my darkness into Light.” Psalm 18:28
Maundy Thursday
Foot Washing Service
This service focuses on the command or “mandates” for Holy Communion at the Last Supper, to “do this in remembrance of me.” Importantly, it also challenges us to servant leadership as Jesus demonstrated through foot washing.
All are welcome to participate in this moving liturgy of or simply observe. “‘If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” John 13:14

Good Friday Service
Following his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, this service of the “Way of the Cross” or “Stations of the Cross,” commemorates the Lord’s journey to the cross after the shouts of “Crucify him! Crucify him!” and invites us to journey with him. Mark: 15:13
Great Easter Vigil
Holy Saturday
Easter Vigil: With four distinct divisions (liturgy of Light, liturgy of Lessons, Renewal of Baptismal Vows, and Holy Eucharist), this service is the first celebration of the Paschal feast, after the commandment on Maundy Thursday to celebrate what we now call Holy Communion. “They will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.” Mark10:34

EASTER SUNDAY
THE LORD IS RISEN!
HALLELUJAH!
On Easter Sunday, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord from death, and by faith, ours also. “Hallelujah!”
The Lord is Risen!” The people have a king after all who is “not of this world,” and all are invited to the Banquet!” I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly!” John 10:10
THE LORD IS RISEN!
HE IS RISEN INDEED!
