Jazz @ Emmanuel – November 10 – Harvest

November 5, 2024October 27, 2025

Join our Jazz Meditations, Readings, Message, and our Jazz Community on November 10th for “Harvest.”

Provision

When we think of Harvest, we think of God’s provision and bounty in terms of food! But how does God think of Harvest? Jesus showed that God’s provision includes the provision in Christ for all the peoples of the world to come into relationship with him.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior,  who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:1-4

Timing

There is a time for planting and a time for reaping. We plant in the spring and harvest in the fall when the plants have had time to come into maturity; when they are at the best or fullest, or ripe. As our relationship with our Creator who has planted seeds of his presence in our lives grows, we come to know him more and our relationship matures.

At some point unknown to us, God will decide his harvest is ripe and bring us all in – a harvest he has planned from the beginning of time.

“Do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, (for the return of Christ) as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.  2 Peter 3:9

Partnership

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.  When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:35-38a

helping hand

When does Christ return? When God’s whole Harvest is fully in and mature. God has invited each of us to have a wonderful share in this Harvest!

“Go into all the world and proclaim the Good News!” Mark 16:15

May the Lord of the Harvest, bless and lead us as we turn to him…
taking the hand of our neighbor.
