Harvest
This month, Jazz @ Emmanuel explores the theme of Autumn and Harvest –from soup to nuts — as only Jazz @ Emmanuel can.
Tom Wendt Band will be the artists for the evening vespers. Readings by Ruth Haley Barton, Henry Nouwen, Dr. Audrey Murrell, Helen Steiner Rice. Inspiring!
Look for Dr. “J” and ensemble in November with “Humble Thanks.” See you then!
Harvest From God’s Perspective…
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” ~Matthew 9:35-38
Imagine if every one of these stalks of corn represented a person. And imagine all of the corn fields all over the world… That is a LOT of corn! You might imagine also that any one of these stalks is expendable. Yet, if you imagined a mother of say, 5 children, would any one of them be expendable? Harsh to even think about.
Well, from God’s point of view, just because there are untold numbers of (corn) people and many (fields of corn) Nations, not one field or stalk is expendable to God.

What do you think? If a shepherd has a hundred sheep and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost. Matthew 18:12-14
So for God, HARVEST is all about each and every one of us in every nation knowing we are His Children. We are not, not one of us, expendable.
We are all part of God’s Harvest. ALL. God plays no favorites. ~Romans 2:11
Once you get that you are part of the Harvest, you can’t help but grab a friend or the stranger on the street, and remind them they are, too. And bring them to Jazz!
