Sunday November 24th is the Feast day of Christ the King. How appropriate to celebrate the installation of a new Chapter of the international Order of the Daughters of the King!
Christ the King Sunday marks the last Sunday in the Liturgical Year and celebrates Jesus’ conquering of sin and victory over death and his eternal reign. Christ the King confirms our identity as a royal priesthood that shares in his reign, now and in the world to come.
Five women of Emmanuel who have been studying and preparing for over a year, will be received at the 10:30 service. The Daughters have chosen to name their Chapter after a contemporary “saint,” Verna Dozier. Verna was an African American educator, theologian, lay advocate, activist and author. She took her identity as part of the royal priesthood of all believers and wrote widely on the role and authority of the laity — very appropriate for any daughter of the King! The Chapter will be studying her books.
There will be a reception following the 10:30 Service in the Lounge. All are welcome.
The Daughters to be installed in the Verna Dozier Chapter are: Jessie Hipolit – Study Leader, Nicole Butler, Sharon Cowden, Gail Hancock, and Carol Veal.
For more information, see The Order of the Daughters of the King under the Ministries tab.
The following Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent and marks the beginning of the new liturgical year.
