Jazz @ Emmanuel – Love is Contagious! May 10, 2026
This Sunday, our 34th Season on The Characteristics of Love appropriately wraps up on Mother’s Day with “Love is Contagious!”
We are all inspired by the hero stories of great sacrifice. We have built an entire religious institution around Christ’s great sacrifice. But heroism and great sacrifice are not the only ways to love contagiously. Jesus did many “small” acts of love, but they had great consequences — touching a severed ear, spitting on a blind eye, saying a word that healed a child, raising a hand to calm a storm… Mother Teresa famously cautioned, โNot all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.โ This is a beautiful challenge! Yet, many of us may find even “small things with great love” seem out of reach for our skill set. What if my love isn’t “great” enough?
Here is the thing about love. All Love is great. All Love grows. Love spreads naturally both inside and out. Love has a way of softening the heart and soaking in, and making the heart larger. This happens in both the giver and the receiver.
The beauty of Love is in the receiver, you could say. We may not even know when we have Loved – whether “greatly” or not-so-much. We are not in a position to judge.
We have to simply let love go — much like setting a butterfly free and watching it light on whichever flowers it chooses – performing a great service as it feeds, spreading the beauty of each bloom as it goes from one to the next.
Think of it like this. We are one of many conduits of Love — Rather than conjuring it up or working to manufacture Love, we merely release it. We set it free. Once free, it belongs again to the universe and to eternity, and anything, and everything, is possible.
“There is no fear in Love. Perfect Love casts out all fear.”
1 John 4:18
Love IS contagious. Reach out this Sunday at 5 pm and “catch” some Love at Jazz @ Emmanuel.
Special Note:
The schedule originally had Dr. “J” playing this month to end the season. Sadly, he has gone on to be with Our Father in Heaven, but his spirit and his ensemble will be with us.
Howie Alexander will be on the Piano, with Pamela Johnson on Vocals.
Join us!
Once again, we would like to Thank God for all the years Dr. “J” lovingly shared his many gifts with Jazz @ Emmanuel.
Dr. “J” truly made Jazz @ Emmanuel contagious!
