Allegheny West Tour and Tasting

Emmanuel, once again, participated in the annual Allegheny West “Tasting and Tour” of the historic Mexican War Streets on June 26 and 27, 2026.
The Allegheny West Civic Council hosts the Tour, formerly called the “The Wine and Garden Tour,” which includes houses and churches in the designated historic area that spans the region from Brighton Road to the east, West North Avenue to the north, Ridge Avenue to the south, and Allegheny Avenue to the west. As Emmanuel Episcopal sits squarely on the corner of Allegheny and West North Aves, and was built in 1865, with National Historic Landmark status, Emmanuel is literally a corner stone of this historic neighborhood!
Residents of this designated Historic City District need permits, Certificates of Appropriateness, before restoring the facade of their 19th C Victorian homes to preserve the historic look and appeal.
In addition to young professionals, executives, and affluent retirees who are buying in to the Northside/North Shore area to either flip or take up residence, the Allegheny West Civic Council helps “assure that vital services, programs and resources are made available to the community.” Part of the resources come from the sales of the Tour and Tasting in Old Allegheny and the Old Allegheny Victorian Christmas House Tour.
Part of the attraction to including Emmanuel yearly on the Tour is, yes, the uniqueness of the architecture, the last building designed by H.H. Richardson, its National Historic Landmark status, but also the picturesque history of the Tiffany “Gibson Girl” altar, illustrated vividly by none other than our Vicar, Don C. Youse, Jr.

Prayer for People to Rediscover “Church”
Father, we humbly ask that all who enter our grounds or sanctuary for any reason, may be opened to sense your Presence that is always as near as our breath. For those who have not entered a church building for some time for various reasons, may they be inspired to seek to draw closer to you, to be mindful of your love and to maybe even join us in worship. Through Jesus, whose life constantly reminds us who you are, Amen.
