The Congregation

Are you looking for a church where you can seek or worship God in the company of men, women and children of all ages? Where your race is unimportant and won’t stick out?  Where what you wear won’t be scrutinized or judged? Where it doesn’t matter if you come alone, or with your parent, or your child(ren) only, or your spouse, or your partner, or a relative, or your whole blessed family?  What we have in common here — is our diversity.  We have found a home here and hope you, too, will find a parish family and a church home at Emmanuel.

Inside the church showing the pews and the altar

A vital, inner-city parish with a congregation rich in ethnic, social, economic and even neighborhood varieties, people from all over the city have a home at Emmanuel.  Amidst this diversity, there is amazing harmony, support, and genuine care.  It is a unity that often surprises even its own members — and one that we wish to share with both the surrounding neighborhood and the greater Pittsburgh community.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. ~John 13:34-35

Our main focus is our worship of the one true God. Members support one another to live out their faith in a Loving God through their everyday lives — at work, at home, in their neighborhoods — and sometimes even at church.  Please join us!

A National Historic Landmark

Emmanuel became a National Historic Landmark in 2000, one of only eight in Pittsburgh.  As such, it has been acclaimed by architectural historians as “Pittsburgh’s most important religious building.”  It is quite unique both inside and out.  Visitors to the city, are advised to make it a place to definitely see while you are here.

Jazz @ Emmanuel

Our free Jazz Service, designed for those who aren’t keen on traditional church, is once a month on Sundays at 5 pm, September through May.  For 35 years, Jazz @ Emmanuel has been a simple reminder of God’s love in the context of good music and the company of both Jazz enthusiasts and the curious from all over the Greater Pittsburgh area.
All are welcome.

Thank you.

Wine Tasting Tours

If you would like to see the inside and get the scoop on the history and construction of Emmanuel, visit the Allegheny West site. Emmanuel has been on the Allegheny West Wine Tasting Tours and/or Christmas Tours, since it began.

Emmanuel is a shining star that seems to never get old.  Tours are led by the Vicar, The Rev. Donald C. Youse and include some inspiring spiritual stories of our origin as a congregation as well as some very enjoyable and colorful accounts of some of the early congregants. Read more here.
