PEACE, BE STILL

In the Episcopal Church, we are in the Church Season of Advent. Advent means “coming.” For the 4 weeks of Advent, we have a blessed opportunity to ponder the miracle of Christ’s coming into our world and each of our lives. Coming first as a humble child, who grows and lives among us as a constant example and representation of God’s Love, he eventually gave his human life up to satisfy justice for our shortcomings, our deliberate wrong doing and our guilt and shame. What a Gift to ponder and celebrate! At the same time, Advent is also a time to ponder Christ’s eventual coming again to restore creation and establish the peace on earth we are all longing for.

In all the hustle and bustle and wonderful craziness of the Christmas season, there is Advent. Advent is a gift of peace, a gift of stillness, a time to reconnect our inner life with the One who gives us Life – now and forever.

Just as Jesus calmed the stormy wind and waves on the Sea of Galilee with the words, “Peace, Be Still,” He can still calm our hearts and minds and lives even as we make our way through the trials of everyday life, difficult relationships, and the expectations and demands of Christmas.

Invite him to bring his Peace to you, too. He has planty to go around.
